Each kit includes a Teacher’s Guide with scripted lesson plans, anchor charts, writing rubrics with discrete literacy domains, and student worksheets for every text type. Student Worksheets include activities for developing vocabulary and language, pre-writing preparation, writing tools and prompts, and revising and editing checklists.

  • Explore the elements and structure of each genre and expand language and vocabulary
  • Develop reading-to-write strategies, comparing and contrasting writers’ crafts, and learning and mastering the writing process
  • Practice writing skills and strategies with accompanying lesson plans and worksheets for each mentor text

Day 1: Presentation of the characteristics of genre/text type

  • Lesson introduces genre/text type and mentor text and uses mentor text to explore genre’s characteristics

Day 5: Revising and Editing

  • Lesson focuses on reviewing the vocabulary and language point, ensuring students apply what they’ve learned in their draft.

  • Activity sheet serves as self-assessment and encourages students to work independently to revise and edit their drafts, and produce a final version.

Day 6: Publishing and/or Presenting

  • Lesson encourages students present or publish their work. The teaching instruction provides ideas based on the genre and/or grade level.
