Research Base

Discover Phonics is grounded in the latest research to ensure a successful learning experience. It provides kindergarten through third-grade teachers an explicit, systematic, and structured approach to teaching and learning reading, writing, vocabulary, spelling, and handwriting with an emphasis on building knowledge of phonology and morphology.

Discover Phonics was created to provide K-3 teachers and students with current materials that address literacy gaps by building an understanding of how sounds, symbols, and words work, eventually leading to orthographic mapping – the ability to store and remember words. In order to reach orthographic mapping, students must recognize why and how sounds and letters, pronunciations and spellings, meaning, and fluency work together.

Discover Phonics includes explicit instruction that systematically connects phonemic awareness and phonics, pronunciation and spelling variations, word meaning, and fluency leading students to reading success.
