Designed to provide students with an active and rewarding learning experience as they strengthen their language skills and develop their cultural competency, Denk mal! takes an interactive, communicative approach. It focuses on real communication in meaningful contexts to develop and consolidate students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
Since Denk mal! takes a communicative approach to the teaching of German, the Communications goal is an integral part of the student text. Diverse activity formats promote authentic communicative exchanges in which students provide, obtain, and interpret information, as well as express emotions or opinions.
Since Denk mal! also stresses cultural competency and the ability to make connections as invaluable components of language learning. The Kurzfilm, Stellen Sie sich vor, Kultur, and Literatur sections all provide students with the opportunity to acquire information, expand cultural knowledge, and recognize distinctive viewpoints. Through connections with multiple disciplines such as film, literature, and art, students are exposed to various cultural practices, products, and perspectives of German speakers.
Fully integrated with your text, the Denk mal! fim collection features dramatic short films by German-speaking filmmakers. These films are the basis for the pre- and post-viewing activities in the Kurzfilm section of each lesson. The films are a central feature of the lesson, providing opportunities to review and recycle vocabulary from Zu Beginn, and previewing and contextualizing the grammar from Strukturen.
As a specialized publisher, we focus on what we love and do best—developing world language materials that get instructors and students as excited about language and culture as we are.
