New Video Virtual Chats

Video Virtual Chat activities provide students opportunities to participate in simulated conversations by responding to questions delivered by video recordings of native speakers. Students benefit from non-verbal as well as articulatory cues—essential for production and pronunciation. Video Virtual Chats allow students to practice their conversation skills without the need for a live partner. Three chats per unit are available online in the Per cominciare and Strutture strands.

New Interactive Grammar Tutorials to Review Key Italian Concepts

These engaging tutorials combine grammar rules with entertaining explanations, capturing students' attention while providing valuable learning in a low-stakes environment. Quick-checks are included to assess comprehension and offer immediate feedback. These activities provide students with an opportunity to build confidence and solidify understanding at their own pace. Have your students complete tutorials before class. You can also assign the tutorials as a review, after you have presented the material. This makes it possible for instructors to use class time for more meaningful, contextualized, and communicative language practice.

Enhanced Reading Experience through Audio-Sync

The readings from the Immagina and Cultura sections of each lesson in Immagina, 4th Edition are now audio-synced. This dual-sensory approach helps solidify the connection between the written and spoken word and reinforces language retention. Listening to native Italian speakers exposes learners to different intonations and can help boost their confidence when engaging in conversations. This enhanced reading experience gives students the opportunity to practice listening outside of class and frees up class time for instructors to focus on other material.

Fostering Cultural Sensitivity with Updated Cultural Content

The authors of Immagina believe that culture is a dynamic and ever-changing aspect of society. The Immagina, Galleria, and Cultura sections of the fourth edition feature up-to-date cultural information that reflects contemporary Italy, ensuring that the content is relevant and relatable to students. In Galleria di persone illustri, fourteen new prominent Italians are now featured, such as Elena Ferrante or Fred Kudjo Kuwornu for example. Engaging with current cultural information helps students recognize stereotypes, misconceptions, and diversity. They can also analyze and evaluate the information within the context of their own experiences and perspectives.

New Lesson Opener Photos

Compelling photos in the lesson openers help capture students’ interest and immediately engage them in the content. Our three new contemporary and culturally diverse lesson opener photos depict relatable situations in which students can see themselves reflected. Images that are visually appealing provide context to the language and help learners feel more connected to Italian speakers and their culture.

New Communicative Goals and Can-Do Statements

New, clearly stated Communicative Goals and Can-Do Statements were added to each section of the lesson to ensure a transparent and effective learning process. Students are able to check their understanding, remind themselves which goals they achieved, and identify any areas where they may need further review and practice. Instructors will appreciate the renewed focus on standards and the focus on all modes of communication.

New Assignable Integrated Performance Assessments (IPAs)

New assignable IPAs use authentic cultural content along with new editable rubric grading and video upload. These assessments measure student progress toward proficiency in the three modes of communication: Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational.
