In Get Ready! students develop essential language and literacy skills as well as academic concepts and vocabulary. A brief introductory lesson is followed by 10 units.

An engaging illustrated scene introduces students to vocabulary and functional language in context. Each section of the unit starts with an Essential Question to stimulate thought and provoke inquiry.

A dramatic presentational video introduces students to life in a US school, and brings unit vocabulary and grammar to life.

Get Ready! provides systematic and explicit phonics instructions that is appropriate for teenage learners.

Get Ready! includes a variety of reading genres such as informational text, biography, narrative, poem, mystery, science fiction, and historical fiction.

Connect to Grammar

Grammar is presented in four manageable chunks in each unit. Self-evaluation allows students to recognize areas in which they need to further develop their skills, and metacognitive questions encourage students to think about their learning.

Grammar Tutorials

Animated Grammar Tutorials engage students by pairing grammar rules with clear and fun explanations. Tutorials also include interactive activities to check for comprehension.

The Content sections provide an explicit focus on building academic literacy while cultivating English language development—Content to Science, Connect to Math, Connect to Social Studies.

Connect to Science

Connect to Science content is inquiry based and driven by ELD standards and guided by Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Connect to Math

Connect to Math content is guided by academic standards that pull from the CCSS in math including attention to mathematical representation and discourse.

Connect to Social Studies

Connect to Social Studies content is inquiry based and thematic, driven by academic and ELD standards.

Connect to Electives

Connect to Electives—different from unit to unit and guided by ELD standards, elective topics include: Business, Computer Science, Drama, Journalism, World Languages, Music, Physical Education, and Career and technical education.

Connect to Writing

Connect to Writing instructs students how to write with a variety of writing styles. Writing strategies present a student model and guides students to completing and presenting a writing assignment.

Projects provide EL’s an experiential way to synthesize unit learning in concrete, creative, and engaging ways!

Connect to Media provides students with access to authentic, award-winning short films. Students learn how to view media through a critical lens.
